Ethical Manufacturing & the Pharmapac Team

Over the past four decades years we have put in place policies and procedures to make life easier within our organisation, keep our staff safe and have created a workplace environment that people are happy and proud to be a part of.

Pharmapac is a family-owned business, and we place great value on our people. We consider our staff an extension of our whānau and as a result, many of our employees have worked with us for over 25 years, with some at 35-40 years. We proudly nurture a work environment that celebrates an inclusive and healthy work / life balance.

When purchasing a Pharmapac product you can feel comfortable that we actively monitor our supply chains and have been audited against the global standard SMETA. SMETA is the world’s most widely used audit. Businesses use SMETA to understand and make improvements to working conditions and environmental performance in their business and supply chain. SMETA is an audit, which helps you to understand standards of labour, health and safety, ethics and environmental.

Pharmapac places a high level of importance on our business relationships, and it will come as no surprise that this extends to our suppliers. We have been working with most key suppliers for a long time, we know each other’s business well and have had full transparency with regards to supply chains.

Modern slavery is a global problem and a challenge for businesses worldwide. Over 40 million men, women and children are in some form of modern slavery. At least 16 million are victims of forced labour in the private sector (International Labour Organization). Modern slavery is the severe exploitation of other people for personal or commercial gain.

SMETA AUDIT

SMETA [SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit] is an audit, which helps you to understand standards of labour, health and safety, environmental performance and ethics within your own operations or at a supplier site.

Delivered by an approved auditor company, the audited business is provided with a Corrective Action Plan to help improve performance in these areas.

The SMETA audit is designed to help protect workers from unsafe conditions, overwork, discrimination, low pay, and forced labour.

SUSTAINABILITY & OUR PEOPLE

Social sustainability is one of the three main pillars of corporate sustainability, alongside economic and environmental. These three pillars are sometimes referred to as People, Planet and Profit, or the “triple bottom line”. This is an important sustainability framework that promotes wellbeing within an organisation.

Pharmapac has a unique team of talented people with many years of combined packaging industry experience. The majority of our team have worked together for many years. We also have multiple family members across several families working at Pharmapac and at one point had 5 husband and wife teams within our business.

We started as a family-owned and operated business in 1979 and, while we have grown to a team of over 65 people, we still maintain our family values and commitment to personalised service.
